John Cena recently shared quite the story about how he once unknowingly ate a hamburger that Hornswoggle threw up on. Cena told the tale during his appearance on What Now? With Trevor Noah of how the whole thing happened and not realizing it until the next morning.

The conversation started when they are talking about coming up in their professions on the road and seeing food left outside hotel room doors. Cena recalled how, when he and the rest of the Raw crew were stuck in Ireland in April of 2010 due to the ash cloud from Iceland’s Eyjafjallajökull volcano eruption, they ended up getting “heavily influenced.” That led to him being hungry and without a chance to order room service because it was too late. He saw a full burger in the hallway and chose to eat it, not knowing that Hornswoggle had thrown up on it. You can see the highlights (if you want to call them that) below:

On How the Whole Thing Happened:

“Well, I’ve done that [eaten hallway food], but I was actually quite influenced when I did that. It wasn’t the first time I saw food in the hallway. It was a time where I needed food. I needed food, because I knew the morning was going to be rough… We got stuck in Ireland because there was a volcano, and we couldn’t get back to the States to perform Raw. It was actually the first time they flew new guys in to do Raw, like rookies. And the last thing you want to do is leave us stuck someplace alone idle, with nothing to do.

“And boy, we had a great night. And a friend of mine, Dylan, who wrestled under the moniker Hornswoggle, and another friend of mine, Christian Cage, who was Christian in the WWE — Christian took Dylan to bed. Dylan was drunk and he had room service and ended up throwing up on his hamburger. That hamburger — Christian put him to bed and tucked him in. He said, ‘Dude, I’m gonna get the tray out,’ and put the tray in the hallway. Flash forward to hours later, I am heavily influenced. And food is closed and there are no options available. And I look and I’m like, ‘That burger’s not even touched! I’m just gonna bring that inside.’ I ate the thing.”

On Finding Out the Next Day:

“And then I come down to breakfast the next morning. And I’m like, ‘Oh man, you guys cool? You dipped out early.’ And like, ‘No, no, he had some problems. I took him to bed, he puked on his hamburger and I put it in the hallway.’ I was like, ‘What? Wait, what room are you in? Is on the — you’re on the third floor?’ And I ate the puke burger. But it was, I needed it.

“I have a feeling [that] at that point, I didn’t even know. Like, I heard the story in the morning and was like, ‘Yeah, that checks out.”

On If He Told Them:

“No, no, that’s — it happened, the unraveling of the story happened in real time at breakfast of like, ‘Yeah, you guys dipped out early.’ ‘Yeah. I had to take him to bed and he puked all over the room and he puked — I put his room service out there.’ I’m like, ‘What? Wait, what?’ It’s like a full burger and fries? You were on the third floor?’ I ate the puke burger. So, it wasn’t the first time I saw food, but in in a moment of necessity. It’s all nutrition.”
