Hello everyone and welcome to 411mania’s LIVE coverage of WWE Crown Jewel, I’m Robert Winfree and I’ll be your host. It’s pretty early here so if I’m a little fuzzy just blame the insomnia and stress that have eaten me alive the last couple of months. As for this card, Crown Jewel is a weird one in general because it’s very self congratulatory in nature. We’ve got the two champion vs. champion matches for the utterly pointless Crown Jewel title, that’s Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins and Stephanie Vaquer vs. Tiffany Stratton if you don’t keep up with who’s holding the belts. We’ve also got the final clash between John Cena and AJ Styles, that’ll be good, Rhea Ripley teaming with Iyo Sky against Asuka and Kairi Sane, and Roman Reigns taking on Bronson Reed in an Australian Street Fight. Does that mean they dodge emus and koalas? I’m just kidding, I just always have to make those kinds of jokes when we get a location specific Street Fight. After Wrestlepalooza went over rather poorly let’s see if the second ESPN era event can have a little more spark and life to it.

Pretty decent opening video package narrated by Rhea Ripley, then Bronson Reed comes out for our main event. Roman doing the hot opener again, decent choice. Hopefully this one isn’t quite as overwrought as their last match.

Match #1 – Australian Street Fight: Roman Reigns vs. Bronson Reed w/ Paul Heyman

They stare down to start then Roman starts landing punches and bouncing Reed into the corners to get the crowd involved. 10 punch from Roman then he clotheslines Reed out of the ring. On the floor now, Roman hits a Drive By kick then punches Reed over the barricade and into the crowd. Roman then throws a few Prime bottles at Reed, about the best use for it really, then he starts brawling with Reed through the crowd. Along the way Roman finds a trashcan and whacks Reed with it a few times as they head back to the ringside area. Roman finds a cricket bat and rugby balls, the balls he throws at Heyman and Reed. Bat shots to Reed send him back into the ring then a shot to the ribs sends him out of the ring again. Roman follows but takes too long so Reed hits an avalanche to take over. Reed with some strikes then he finds a kendo stick but misses and Roman rams him into the ring post then lays into him with the stick.

Roman gets a mic and plays with the crowd, telling them if they want tables they should acknowledge him. The people oblige so Roman goes under the ring for tables. Roman puts the Slim Jim table in the ring but the delay lets Reed attack from behind then ram Roman into the ring steps which he completely displaces. Reed then puts the table back under the ring for heat then goes back to attacking Roman. Reed gets the top of the ring steps and rams them into Roman a couple of times. Now Reed gets a couple of chairs which he puts in the ring where Roman is, then he lands a few chair shots to the ribs before wedging a chair in one of the corners. Another chair shot from Reed, he’s targeting the ribs of Roman now. Reed sets up a chair but takes too long so Roman hits a Samoan Drop through the chair which completely collapses and that gets Roman a 2 count.

Roman tries clotheslines but he can’t get Reed down and just batters Reed with them against the ropes. They hit the ropes and Roman lands a jumping clothesline to finally get Reed to bump. Reed counters a Superman punch with a Jagged Edge for a 2 count. Now Reed gets a stop sign and whacks Roman with it a few times then tries a Uranage and eventually hits it onto the sign for another 2 count. The ref has gloves on, not sure where the blood is though. Roman avoids a senton and Reed lands on the sign, oh it looks like there’s a small amount of blood on Roman’s elbow. Reed charges at the corner and eats the wedged chair, then Roman hits a Superman punch for a near fall. The crowd still want tables. Roman sets for a Spear but Reed rolls out of the ring, so Roman follows and runs around the ring but Bron Breakker shows up to intercept him with a Spear.

Reed starts taking apart the announce table, then Bron gets Roman up for Reed to powerbomb him through the table. Reed gets a Slim Jim table and sets it in the ring then props it up in a corner. Jey Uso’s music hits and here come both Jimmy and Jey. Double superkick for Bron then they get into the ring and attack Reed with strikes. Superkicks for Bron as he gets back in the ring, that sets up the double hip attacks. 1D for Bron as Reed has rolled out of the ring. Jimmy and Jey set for the double Splash but Reed pushes Jimmy off the ropes then Bron with a military press into a double knee gutbuster to Jey. Bron lines up Jimmy on the floor and Spears him through the barricade into the time keepers area. That should take care of those two. Reed climbs the ropes but Roman with a Superman punch, then another one.

Roman lines up a Spear but has to Superman punch Bron off the apron. Reed picks up Roman, Roman fights free but Jey accidentally Spears Roman through the table. Bron with a Spear to Jey. Bron then holds Roman for Reed to hit a Tsunami and that’ll do it.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Bronson Reed won in 21:06

Rating: 3.5 stars
Thoughts: Fun little plunder match, naturally it got a tad overbooked towards the end but that’s just part for the course for Roman matches at this point.

Reed, Bron, and Heyman head up the ramp and Roman gets time to sit and yell at Jimmy and Jey in the ring. All three men sit, Roman says the world thinks he can’t do anything on his own and reiterates he asked them to stay out of this one. Roman says this only works one way, he says he loves them but doesn’t want to see them until Christmas and heads out. The crowd chant “someone’s in trouble” which is kind of amusing. Jimmy and Jey bicker a bit with Jey saying Roman is always just gonna be Roman and wont change, then he heads out on his own.

Match #2 – Women’s Crown Jewel Title Match: Stephanie Vaquer vs. Tiffany Stratton

Dueling chants of “La primera” and “Tiffy time”. They tie up and Vaquer hits a mat return, Tiffany then tries an arm wringer but Vaquer counters into a kimura. Tiffany escapes that into a side headlock, Vaquer gets back to the arm wringer, this time Vaquer blocks the escape a few times. Eventually Tiffany escapes but Vaquer with a satellite into a School Boy for a 2 count. Tiffany tries a roll up for a weak 2 count and they stand off. That sequence was a little off, hopefully they get things lined up soon. Tiffany offers a hand shake, Vaquer declines this time. Tiffany up and over out of the corner then tries the handspring back elbow but Vaquer easily avoids it then hits some face washes on Tiffany causing Tiffany to powder. Back in the ring Tiffany hits a dropkick but then runs into a thrust kick. CVquer blocks a Sunset flip and does the double boots to the face then a running leg drop for a 2 count. Vaquer stomps the arm of Tiffany, then she gets a bit of a standing STF. Tiffany fights out of that then flips out of a back suplex and hits one of her own.

Tiffany blocks a kick and lands a clothesline then hits the handspring back elbow. Cartwheel Alabama Slam from Tiffany gets a 2 count. Vaquer blocks a low dropkick then they trade a few counters. Vaquer with a Dragon Screw out of the corner then a corner Meteora for a 2 count. As Vaquer goes up top Tiffany shoves her to the apron and they fight for position then Tiffany avoids a springboard move and hits an End of Heartache for a 2 count. Tiffany tries a Pretties Moonsault Ever but Vaquer crotches her then pulls her down for a back suplex. They trade roll ups then Tiffany lands a running boot for a 2 count. Again Tiffany goes up top, but Vaquer gets her knees up to block the Swanton Bomb then follows up with a Devil’s Kiss. SVB follows but only a 2 count, Tiffany could have made that a closer near fall. Tiffany blocks the Angel’s Wings double knee, then hits a Finaly Roll but misses the Prettiest Moonsault Ever. Vaquer up top, Sky Twister Press and that’ll do it.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Stephanie Vaquer won in 10:06

Rating: 3 stars
Thoughts: Seems like Tiffany took a little bit from Charlotte Flair in terms of how she works when not going over. This was good but a bit too short and these two definitely felt like they weren’t quite on the same page at parts.

Triple H shows up to hug Vaquer and present her with the ring and belt she just won. Jackie shows up to talk with Vaquer in the ring as the crowd give her a “you deserve it” chant. Vaquer gets the mic and plays with the crowd a bit before saying the belt represents her motivation and the love the fans have given her. She thanks the fans for believing in her.

In the back Bron and Reed talk, then Heyman comes over to congratulate Reed on the win. Heyman says when people talk about the vision of the future, it’s about both of them. He then says if Seth begs for help tonight, they are not to go. This is a meritocracy, either Cody Rhodes or Seth Rollins is better. Bron asks what happens if Cody wins, Heyman says they both know the answer to that question. Ominous, or at least that’s what they’re going for because they’re clearly not breaking up this group yet.

After then entrances we do get Cena’s special intro. After that he hands the announcer a piece of paper. The crowd do the “Thank you Cena” chant for a bit, then he points to the announcer who’s got a special intro for AJ from Cena now. AJ is the definition of total nonstop action, and boss of the Bullet Club. Seeing if he can beat up John Cena one final time, the face that runs the place, the Phenomenal AJ Styles. Very cool moment.

Match #3: John Cena vs. AJ Styles

They circle then tie up, AJ grabs a side headlock to start. AJ hits the ropes then dodges an arm drag from Cena. Cena grabs a side headlock now then hits the ropes but runs into a dropkick. AJ does that sequence a third time. Cena blocks a fourth attempt and hits a clothesline to put both men down.

Cena with a shoulder block, another one, then AJ avoids the third move of doom and hits a striking combination but Cena avoids the spinning backfist then hits the Proto bomb. AJ avoids the 5 Knuckle Shuffle and hits an enziguri. Cena repeats that after avoiding a corner splash and hits the 5 Knuckle Shuffle. Attitude Adjustment connects but only a near fall. AJ avoids a second Attitude Adjustment then he hits the Attitude Adjustment onto his knee in the neckbreaker spot, the oshi garoshi. Cena avoids a Styles Clash and hits a Skull Crushing Finale for a 2 count. AJ rolls to the apron, then Cena pulls him up top but AJ slips free and hits a Torture Rack Bomb for another 2 count. Stinger Splash from AJ then a Scorpion Death Drop for a 2 count. Cena counters a Styles Clash into an STFU, AJ slips free though into a Crippler Crossface. Cena rolls free and grabs a Camel Clutch, that gets a “Rusev Day” chant for the Accolade. AJ counters through into a Coquina Clutch, that gets a “Joe” chant and bless this crowd for getting all the references. Cena powers up, Cena avoids a Calf Crusher and gets a Walls of Jericho. The real Liontamer version from Cena here. AJ inverts and comes up then rolls into the Calf Crusher, looks like we’re through the reference portion of the match.

Cena rolls through and counters back into the STFU, Cena drags AJ away form the ropes then AJ kicks him off and hits the Styles Clash for a near fall. The crowd with a “fight forever” chant as AJ heads to the apron for the Phenomenal Forearm but Cena blocks and hits a Sister Abigail for a sick near fall. Cena made that move look devastating the way he held the head on the way down. That brings out the fireflies and the crowd briefly sings “He’s got the whole world in his hands” which gets Cena emotional in the ring. AJ avoids an Attitude Adjustment and hits an Angel’s Wings for a 2 count.

They start trading strikes now, the crowd is just cheering for both men. Both men avoid finishers then Cena drops AJ with a pancake before AJ avoids a Pedigree and hits a Beach Break to put both men down. Slow cover from AJ means Cena kicks at 2. Cena hits the draping DDT in homage to Randy Orton, Cena sets for an RKO and hits it for a near fall. Now Cena lines up a Punt kick but AJ avoids that and hits an Attitude Adjustment for another near fall.

AJ staggers around then calls for a 5 Knuckle Shuffle but Cena counters into a chokeslam for another near fall. The crowd want a 619, I think that might be a bit beyond Cena at this point but he hits the drop toe hold into the ropes and AJ then intercepts him with a clothesline to ear the first boos of the match. AJ avoids an Attitude Adjustment and kicks Cena in the head, that lines up the springboard 450 splash which connects. AJ now tunes up the band, good grief this kind of rules, and AJ hits Sweet Chin Music for yet another near fall. Now AJ lines up the Phenomenal Forearm, connects but Cena still kicks at 2. Big “yes” chant from the crowd, Cena tries an Attitude Adjustment and eventually hits it but only yet another near fall.

Cena puts AJ on the top rope and he tries the avalanche Attitude Adjustment, AJ fights that off though and he dives but Cena catches and rolls through then hits a Tombstone Piledriver. Another Attitude Adjustment and that’ll finally do it for Cena.

OFFICIAL RESULT: John Cena won in 27:12

Rating: 5 stars
Thoughts: It’s a special kind of moment in time when you can get this kind of performance and it actually lands perfectly. Cena and AJ paying homage to their lengthy careers, their myriad rivals and considering just how transformative both men have been to wrestling over the years that’s saying something. What a joy that was, two wrestling soul mates doing it one last time.

Post match Cena and AJ shake hands then embrace.

Match #4 – Tag Team Match: Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky vs. Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane)

Asuka and Sane attack at the bell then toss Rhea out of the ring. Iyo gets isolated but Rhea shows back up and everyone brawls for a bit, ultimately Iyo and Asuka remain in the ring together. Asuka offers a handshake, Iyo declines and kicks at her which amuses Asuka. Iyo with a trip then a dropkick. Both women with some counters then Iyo lays in strikes, Asuka fights back and lands a back elbow. Dropkick from Iyo then she lands a chop but Asuka powders only for Iyo to hit a suicide dive. Sane comes over, Iyo clocks her but Asuka then rams Iyo into the ring post and hits a head kick. Rhea rallies Iyo as Asuka gets into the ring, Iyo is barely able to beat the count but does get into the ring. Asuka with more control strikes then tags in Sane who kicks Iyo then does the hanging head scissors over the ropes. Sane up top and his a diving elbow for a 2 count.

Chops from Sane then Asuka tags in. Asuka stands on the head of Iyo then does some trash talk. Slap from Asuka then some kicks to the back. Cheap shot from Sane, she feels bad about that one. Iyo avoids a suplex and tries to tag out but Asuka blocks that and mocks Rhea. Now Iyo fights off Asuak, Sane tags in and blocks the tag. Running Blockbuster from Sane then she misses a cheap shot but that lets Asuka and Sane double team Iyo for a bit. Asuka tags in mocks Rhea, Iyo and Asuka trade strikes but Sane hits a spinning back fist. Striking flurry from Asuka then she tags Sane as Iyo is in a tree of woe, Sane then hits the double stomp for a 2 count. Rhea then tries Riptide but Sane slips free, blind tag to Asuka and Asuka with a few kicks to Rhea then they hit the InSane Elbow and Death Drop DDT and Iyo has to save things this time. Sane with an enziguri to Iyo, Rhea with one for Sane, Asuka kicks Rhea then Iyo with a springboard dropkick to Asuka and everyone’s down. Asuka and Rhea are still legal, they jaw a bit and then trade elbows for a bit with Rhea eventually getting the better of things. Both women miss kicks then Rhea lands a back elbow and superkick. Rhea gets Asuka up and drops her face first into the corner. Rhea pulls Auska up on the ropes, she wants an avalanche Riptide but Sane is her to tag in and break that up. Sane pushes Asuka away from a boot. Riptide now to Sane, she tags in Iyo for Over the Moonsault and that’ll end things.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky won in 19:56

Rating: 4 stars
Thoughts: A little overlong but in general quality work from all four women. Asuka remains pretty awesome, my big hope for this whole thing is Sane getting a bit more of a spotlight because she’s been kind of kept in the background since returning to WWE.

Match #5 – Men’s Crown Jewel Title Match: Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins

They tie up and jockey for position around the ring, eventually we get a clean break but Rollins tires to get after Cody too quickly and Cody trips him down. Another tie up, Rollins tries a headlock but Cody keeps countering then grabs one of his own before hitting the ropes and running into a kick. Stalling gordbuster from Cody and Rollins is frustrated in the corner. The “Seth is a wanker” chant comes back. Rollins powders and looks to refocus on the floor. Rollins drops Cody onto the barricade, shoves over the Prime bottles for a big pop, then walks the barricade and hits a double stomp onto Cody.

Back into the ring Rollins barely finds a 1 count then hits a back suplex for another 1 count. Cody fights back with strikes but Rollins lands a clothesline. Cody blocks a Pedigree then Rollins avoids a Figure 4, Cody flips out of a back suplex but Rollins turns a Disaster Kick into a powerbomb for a 2 count. Rollins gets pissy at the ref over the count. Cody looks to fire up and lands some punches then hits a snap powerslam. Disaster Kick from Cody then the jabs into the Bionic Elbow to send Rollins out of the ring, this time Cody follows with a suicide dive. Back in the ring Cody withe a Cody Cutter and a near fall.

Cody wants Cross Rhodes, Rollins counters into a Victory Roll for 2 then hits an enziguri. Drop down kick from Cody but he jumps into a Pedigree and Rollins gets a 2 count, no one bit on that pin. Rollins lines up a Stomp but Cody counters into a Cross Rhodes but Rollins counters into his own Cross Rhodes but again only 2. Some punches from Rollins then he goes up top for a Phoenix Splash, has he ever actually hit that move because he misses it again here and Cody misses a top rope Cody Cutter. Another Pedigree from Rollins then a Stomp but only a near fall. Rollins is in disbelief about that and gets mad at the ref again. Chop from Rollins then he climbs up with Cody for a superplex, Cody fights that off but Rollins runs and jumps up with him again and hits a Spanish Fly then a Rock Bottom for a near fall. Yeah they’re setting Rollins up big time to finally get over this particular hump.

Rollins heads up again, Cody with strikes though and he climbs up with Rollins for an avalanche Cross Rhodes but again only a near fall. That really should have been the finish. Cody pulls himself up and starts punching away at Rollins. Rollins fires back and they start trading blows, the crowd is pretty burned out at this point though. Rollins with Kawada kicks but Cody with some of his own. Cody tries a Tiger Driver, Rollins escapes and grabs the watch, oh and a ref bump of course. Rollins with a watch punch as the ref is down. Stomp from Rollins then he goes up top for another one and hits the super Stomp to win.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Seth Rollins won in 29:43

Rating: 3.5 stars
Thoughts: This did not need 30 minutes as they kind of lost the crowd, plus they badly telegraphed the finish. That said these two still work well together overall but Rollins winning is really the least interesting option, but that’s been true of everything of Rollins for about 8 years.

Triple H shows up to give Rollins the big belt. Cathy shows up, Rollins just yanks the mic from her and says it feels incredible to finally get the monkey off of his back. Some of us dream impossible dreams, and some have the fortitude to reach those dreams but there’s only one man who reaches higher than the highest. He calls himself the greatest of all time after having that match. He runs through the same catchphrases for the last decade to close. Yawn. Commentary lies about being interested in what Rollins does next. Stephanie Vaquer shows up so the champs can pose together, and remind everyone that Smackdown is pointless B-tier filler to end the show.

Well that closes Crown Jewel. Thanks everyone for being here, stay safe out there and keep checking 411mania for all of your pop culture needs.
