Josh Barnett says he made an offer to take over operations of NJPW Of America before its shutdown but his offer was declined. As noted, NJPW announced on Friday that it was ending the NJPW Of America subsidiary and putting it into liquidation. While NJPW will continue to run shows in North America, the subsidiary itself is coming to an end.
Barnett posted to Twitter to react to the news. He noted that he offered to take over the US program in full, but that the offer was declined. He wrote:
“Since this is going down today here’s a little info:
I had offered to take over the whole program in the US – Training, classes, running local shows, and more. I could tell that there was a very expensive asset here that wasn’t being fully used, but knew with the right direction, it could be a crown jewel for them.
Unfortunately, the cost versus debt was so bad it would seem, that closing it was the best move in their eyes.
What could have been…
Onward though, as always.”
Barnatt ran GCW’s Bloodsport events for years but announced back in April that he was putting the series on indefinite hiatus.
