Julia Hart has announced that she has been diagnosed with the eating disorder ARFID, making the reveal in a social media video. The AEW star posted to TikTok last month to note that she was diagnosed with the disorder in November.

“Hey guys,” Hart began. “I just wanted to come on here and bring some awareness to ARFID disorder. Because I got diagnosed with ARFID in November, and I just wanted to know if anyone else is going through that. I see a lot of people talking about anorexia, bulimia and binging, but I don’t see anyone talking about ARFID. And I’m like, ‘Am I the only one here? Who else is going through this, how are they dealing with it.”

She continued, “I feel like going through therapy the last few months, I’ve really understood where my triggers come in and what has made my brain think this way? So I wonder if anyone else kind of going through the same thing, and what they’re doing to help themselves.”

ARFID is an acronym for Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder and studies have found it effects between 0.5% and 5% of children and adults. The National Eating Diorders Association describes it as follows:

“Individuals with ARFID limit the volume and/or variety of foods they consume, but unlike the other eating disorders, food avoidance or restriction is not related to fears of fatness or distress about body shape, size or weight. Instead, in ARFID, selective eating is motivated by a lack of interest in eating or food, sensory sensitivity (e.g., strong reactions to taste, texture, smell of foods), and/or a fear of aversive consequences (e.g., of choking or vomiting).”

On behalf of 411, our best wishes to Hart as she deals with the condition.
