Kacy Catanzaro Recalls How Shawn Michaels Wanted Fans To React for NXT Women’s Tag Team Title Win

Former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Kacy Catanzaro (formerly Katana Chance) and Lacey Lane (aka Kayden Carter) recently reunited for a virtual signing with WrestleFest. During the virtual chat, Kacy Catanzaro recalled when she and Lane won the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles and how NXT Executive Producer Shawn Michaels wanted to build it up where the fans needed to see them win. She stated the following (via Fightful):

Kacy Catanzaro on their NXT Tag Team Title win: “It’s funny because when you brought it up (winning WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles on main roster), I always think of the NXT titles first because that was such a big build for us where we were in NXT as a tag team and we were just pushing and pushing and pushing and pushing and pushing and losing and losing and it was like never our turn, and we were like, ‘Damn, are we ever gonna get there?'”

On how Shawn Michaels wanted the fans to need to see them become champs: “And I remember Shawn (Michaels) saying, ‘We want the people to absolutely need for you guys to have the titles. We want it to be that,’ and in the moment, I’m like, ‘Damn, I want it to be our turn’ but when we finally won, it was so worth the wait. The crowd was so behind us, so I always think more of that big moment whereas the main roster was a little bit more kind of wishy-washy, you never know, and then it kind of happened but it wasn’t the same build accomplishment.”

Catanzaro and Lane won the vacant titles in a Fatal 4-Way Elimination Match in August 2022 on NXT 2.0. They were released by WWE earlier this year.
