A new backstage update from Fightful Select has shed light on Keith Lee’s status with AEW. While a potential return to television has been discussed internally, no timetable has been set.
Keith Lee has not appeared on AEW programming since late 2023, and fans have continued to question when, or if, he will return to the ring. According to Fightful Select, AEW sources recently confirmed that the former TNT Championship challenger was part of internal discussions regarding a comeback several months ago. However, those discussions have yet to lead to an on-screen return.
While AEW sources acknowledged that a comeback has been discussed, Fightful is “not sure if that made it to him or not.” Despite reports of some “tentative plans,” Fightful notes “they would have happened by now if they were as originally intended.” There has also been no indication that he is currently undergoing the company’s medical clearance process, which often takes place in the weeks leading up to a wrestler’s return.
According to the report, interest in Lee’s situation extends beyond fans. Fightful stated that after teasing an update on X, several wrestlers contacted the outlet asking about Lee’s status.
Despite his lengthy absence, Keith Lee remains under contract with AEW and is still listed on the company’s roster. However, he has not been involved in regular creative plans for quite some time.
Lee’s last AEW match took place in December 2023, when he defeated Brian Cage during the Holiday Bash edition of Collision.
