As noted, Kenny Omega defeated Yota Tsuji and Boltin Oleg in a three-way match at NJPW Power Struggle to earn a shot at the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 21.
On November 4, NJPW held a press conference, where Kenny Omega claimed Yota Tsuji doesn’t have the experience to represent the company on a global stage, adding that New Japan fans may not want him as the IWGP Heavyweight Champion, but it’s something that they desperately need.
Here’s what he said [quotes via NJPW’s website]:
“I put Tsuji in an unwinnable position. I knew that I would win in a three-way, and I knew that then you would accept my challenge. To become a champion, you have to represent on a worldwide stage, and you don’t have what it takes to do that… to get someone to bet a billion dollars to create a promotion on your name. It’s just not gonna happen.
“And why is that? It’s just because you lack the experience. I’m doing everybody here a favor. I’m gonna be the champion that you need. Maybe not the one that you want, but the one that you need.”
NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 21 will take place in Tokyo, Japan, on January 4. You can check the match card HERE.
