Stephen A. Smith has been increasingly involved in ESPN’s coverage of WWE in recent months, and a new report has details on the matter. Smith was a major part of the network’s coverage of WWE in the road to WrestleMania, and noted earlier this month that Nick Khan had talked to him about appearing as a manager. He noted at the time though that “I’m not as courageous as Pat McAfee. I ain’t trying to get hit by one of them big boys, at all.”
According to Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select, sources in ESPN were “pleased and enthusiastic” about the potential for Smith to get involved in the partnership, and that there is an expected payoff for said involvement that was pitched for this summer. Smith has a good relationship with several officials in TKO.
It’s not clear what the nature of involvement would be. Stephen A. Smith had an interaction with Danhausen and ended up cursed by him, though Smith said that he’s not scared of being “jinxed” by the WWE star.
