Powerhouse Hobbs is expected to head to WWE now that his AEW deal has expired, and a new report has some additional details on his move. As reported last night, Hobbs’ contract expired at midnight and he is expected to sign with WWE. He finished up with AEW at the post-Dynamite Collision taping. Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select reports that there is (unsurprisingly) no non-compete as his contract is expired. If a deal were to get done, Hobbs could appear as soon as WWE Smackdown.

To be clear, that is not an indication that Hobbs will be appearing on Smackdown, simply that it could happen if the deal gets completed. Sean Ross Sapp reports that the pitch from WWE was for Hobbs to appear on the main roster.

The site also confirmed with sources that Hobbs is expected to have a name that is at least altered from his AEW ring name, as WWE often does for its wrestlers. It notes that “Hobbs” is a possibility for the character name.

Sapp adds that talks between AEW and Hobbs began in recent months, with offers made all the way up to this week. As previously noted, AEW made a “huge” offer to retain him, but he had made up his mind. Hobbs tried not to burn any bridges on the way out of the company.

WWE has been interested in Hobbs for years. There is no indication on when he may debut.
