Reigning ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty bested Nigel McGuinness in an epic 30-minute Iron Man match at ROH Final Battle.
After the match, McGuinness paid his respect to Moriarty by putting the original Pure Title on the latter’s shoulder. Nigel also bowed down to Lee, and the latter responded by doing the same.
At the post-show Media Scrum, Moriarty revealed that he was not aware of Nigel bringing the original Pure Championship until he saw the veteran make his entrance.
“Pure wrestling is a style that I appreciate so much, and I feel that is a foundation of Ring of Honor. It’s meant to be what’s in that ring, the sport, the content, and the art form of what we do, and to see that title in person was so cool, and I didn’t know that was here in the building until he walked out with it, and to be able to hold it with my generation’s Ring of Honor Pure Title is such a cool moment that I’ll never forget,” he said. The match went into sudden death after both competitors ended at 4-4 after the completion of 30 minutes. Moriarty was finally able to secure the victory at the 32-minute mark. It was a double pin attempt, but the Pure Champion lifted his head at the final moment.
