Leighty’s WWE Main Event Review 9.17.26

-Written: 9.17.26

-Tough week for my family as we lost my father-in-law over the weekend. The world lost a hard working man who could build anything he wanted. He loved his family and adored all of his grandkids. He honored me by giving me his blessing to marry his daughter and let me live with him until my house was built. He was not a wrestling fan, but loved watching UFC. He did think it was cool that I was a writer for a wrestling site though. You will be greatly missed sir! Thank you, and I love you!

Kit Wilson (w/ The Miz) vs. Kyoki (w/ Shinsuke Nakamura)

-We are Mexico City for these matches and that’s why we are getting a but more star power as the NXT kids were left back in the US. This is Kyoki’s WWE singles debut. I’ll take whatever I can get on Main Event. Wilson throws a chop as Vic notes Miz is not in a good mood after what happened to the Browns. My Niners put me in a good mood. Kit flexes on Kyoki and throws his shirt at him. Kyoki puts the shirt in his mouth. Kit gets a shoulder tackle and flexes before swiveling the hips. Kyoki yells at him, so Kit lands a heavy chop. Kyoki wants another and then they start trading chops. Forearm from Kyoki and he gets a body-press and another and another. Kit bails to the floor. Kyoki off the apron but Wilson avoids and hits a running Euro Uppercut. This crowd is popping for everything. Another flying uppercut in the ring and then a hip swivel into a neckbreaker for two. Miz lands a shot from the outside and that draws a pop. We get a Miz chant on Main Event in 2026! Kyoki starts his comeback and Kit bails to the floor again. Kyoki runs the apron and this time he connects with the shotgun dropkick, which sends Wilson into the barrier. Back in the ring Kyoki gets a Falcon’s Arrow for two. Kyoki with his own hip swivel and that’s gimmick infringement so Kit hits a Twist of Fate for two. He heads up for Men Cry Too, but Kyoki avoids and then hits a superkick. Miz on the apron and accidentally gets decked by Wilson. Kyoki hits a modified stunner for the pin at 5:26.

Winner: Kyoki via pin at 5:26
-The crowd was great and made this match feel important. They were way into Kit and Miz, which kind of overshadowed Kyoki a bit, but his style is so interesting that I can see crowds getting behind him. This was a perfectly acceptable and enjoyable match. **1/2

-Miz tries to hit a Skull Crashing Finale after the match, but that doesn’t end well for him. KINSHASA from Nakamura!

-WWE Survivor Series: Houston! War Games!

The LWO (Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde) vs. Alpha Academy (Otis and Tozawa)

-Otis starts with Wilde, but he doesn’t want any and tags out to Cruz. Otis shoves him down to start. Another go and Cruz tries a go behind and nothing doing there. He swivels the hips which pops the crowd. Tozawa in and he throws chops in the corner. This crowd is even louder than they were for the previous match. They are going crazy for Alpha Academy. Wilde with a cheap shot from the apron to turn the tide and the crowd is not happy about it. Wilde in and we get a double elbow and then splash from Wilde (with an assist from Cruz) for two. Cruz back in and he cuts off a tag by decking Otis. Tozawa breaks a headlock with a jaw breaker, but no tag as he gets cut off again. Tozawa snaps off a double DDT and the crowd is begging for the hot tag. There it is and Otis is running wild! Well, running over Wilde I guess. He misses a charge in the corner and goes shoulder first into the post. Cruz up top, but Otis sends Wilde into him to stop that. World’s Strongest Slam followed by The Caterpillar. Tozawa off the top with the Senton and that gets the pin at 5:21.

Winner: Alpha Academy via pin at 5:21
-Just a standard tag match, but the crowd helped elevate as they were great for this. You could tell all four men were having a blast out there. ***

-Money in The Bank! New Orleans!

”All Ego” Ethan Page vs. Joe Hendry

-This is the first time for both men on Main Event. I enjoy the NXT vs. WWE stuff we usually get, but it’s nice to see main roster people do battle on this show every now and then. Mexico City believes in Joe Hendry as they sing the song. Hendry has a black eye! They fight for wrist control and Hendry gets the early advantage. Page backs Joe to the ropes and lands a straight right hand and the crowd BOOS. Hendry back with a neckbreaker and the crowd pops. I can’t state enough how great this crowd is. Page lands a running boot and just starts firing away with right hands to the face. Sunset flip by Hendry gets two. Page up first and gets a Code Breaker for two. Joe blocks a suplex, but Page slides over to get a sleeper. Hendry runs him into the corner to break, but Page dives back on for another sleeper. The crowd cheers Hendry on as he gets to his feet and counters into a suplex in a nice spot. They start trading blows and Hendry gets a clothesline and another. SOS Slam followed by a kip up and we get the pose. Hit Single connects for two. Standing Ovation next but Page fights it off and nearly runs Hendry into the ref (Jessika Carr). She gets out the way and misses Page getting a roll-up with a hand full of tights for the pin at 5:07.

Winner: Ethan Page via pin at 5:07
-Like every match tonight the crowd was great and the guys in the ring were feeding off them. These two have good chemistry and this was another good, entertaining match. ***

-Thanks for reading!

Take a super-hot crowd and some motivated wrestlers and you get one of best episodes of Main Event of the year. Nothing here matched Grace/Giulia for Match of the Year, and I think the Feb 12th episode was the better in ring show from top to bottom, but this was in the ballpark, and this had a tremendous crowd. I think this goes down as my favorite episode of the year, but I reserve the right to change my mind.
