During a recent interview with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, AEW star Mark Briscoe discussed tonight’s Steel Cage Match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. He also weighed in on MJF promising title shots to other wrestlers. Below are some highlights from Fightful:
Mark Briscoe on How He Feels Heading Into Forbidden Door
“Oh, man. Always excited when the steel cage is involved, always. Super confident, super excited. Me and my crew, we are much more of a tight knit, we much more in unison than the other team, I would say. So, yeah, I’m feeling good, man. Feeling good.”
On MJF Promising Title Shots
“No kidding, man. See, like that’s his problem. As great as he thinks he is, it’s just a very, very boneheaded move on his part. I’ll put it that way. Very boneheaded move. He’s berating Andrade left and right and he don’t know when to keep his mouth shut. That’s his problem. So either way, it ain’t looking good for old Max. I think we’re ready to get violent. We got some ideas. We got some game plans, and we’re gonna go have some fun.”
On What’s Different About Tonight’s Steel Cage War Compared to Blood & Guts
“No, man. Only the Blood & Guts. But that’s a whole different thing. I think that’s five on five, I believe. I don’t know. My brain don’t work like it used to, but no, I’ve never had a 12-man steel cage. Man, I’m telling you, there’s no way that this ain’t going to be a heck of a good time. I’m just wondering what’s the orientation of the cage? I’m hoping we have a little bit of ringside area to play in. 12 men in the cage is going to be a hoot.”
On His Plans for the Matchup
“See, I used to always try to come up with all these ideas by myself and think of things and come up with things. I still do to an extent, but anymore it’s just like these ideas are just uploaded. They’re just uploaded into my mind. I don’t even have to put in effort to think about these things, it just come to me. So I don’t know if it’s something from extraterrestrials. If it’s something from the good Lord himself, I don’t know. But they just come to me. I don’t normally wait. I don’t normally wait to see the structure. Now, sometimes when you do see the structure is a whole new thing. It’s like, ‘What in the world? Okay, we can do this here, and we can do that there.’ But no, most of the time by the time I get to the building, I already got a pretty good list of crazy things to try or to do.”
Team Briscoe (Mark Briscoe, Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Reilly, Konosuke Takeshita, and Darby Allin) takes on Team MJF (MJF, Kevin Knight, Kyle Fletcher, Jake Doyle, Kazuchika Okada, and Andrade El Ídolo) in a Steel Cage Match tonight at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. If Briscoe’s team wins, Briscoe will earn a title shot against MJF.
AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door takes place later tonight at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. It will be broadcast live on pay-per-view. 411 will also have live coverage of tonight’s event.
