During last night’s Busted Open After Dark, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry reacted to the main event of last night’s WWE SmackDown, which saw Drew McIntyre defeat Jimmy Uso in a No Disqualification Match. According to Henry, Jimmy Uso is going through an evolution where he’s finally becoming his own man, stepping out of the shadow of Roman Reigns and his brother, Jey Uso.
Henry compared the situation to his former tag team duo with D’Lo Brown, noting how difficult it can be when you’re on your own and having to fend for yourself after being in a tag team for so long. Below are some highlights:
Mark Henry on how Jimmy Uso is finally growing into his own man
“Guys, are y’all starting to become fans of Jimmy Uso being his own man? I am. I’ve been saying it for a while, and I think that Roman [Reigns] is trying to tell Jimmy, ‘Go be your own man. You got a baby on the way. You need to be your own man. You don’t need your brother, you don’t need me, you don’t need your wife. All you need is your two fists and to get in the ring. But he’s confused still because he’s worrying about everybody else too much.”
Henry on his former tag team with D’Lo Brown
“There was a time when I thought me and D’Lo were going to be tag team champions forever. And then I was told, ‘Okay. D’Lo is going to go to Raw. You’re going to SmackDown. Y’all are split left. And I was lost being by myself for the first time. I was lost. But then, I found myself, and there was a little brief period where I tried to replace D’Lo with Red Dog, Rodney Mack. Thugging and bugging. But at some point, I had to do it on my own, and I was told, ‘Hey, if you can’t fend for yourself, we’re only going to be able to use you in the middle of the card. We can’t put you at the beginning. We can’t put you at the end.’ And when you get that realization, you better turn it up or get lost in the shuffle. That’s where Jimmy is.”
How how Jimmy Uso has to develop into a main event player on his own
“He’s at the place in his career where he has to fend for himself, become a Main Event player, no pun, like his brother, Main Event Jey Uso; he’s going to have to develop that on his own. If not, he’s going to constantly be on the floor while his brother is wrestling, while his cousin is wrestling, and then he’s going to see his other relatives, like Jacob Fatu, become a main guy. Hell, I can see Zilla Fatu coming in in the next year or two. Do you want another family member to pass you by? To be in the rings of, I want to be a main event player? Well, Drew McIntyre got in the way of that. And then we had Cody [Rhodes] run in and save the day like a true main event hero does.”
McIntyre ultimately defeated Jimmy Uso in the No DQ bout. After the match, Cody Rhodes came out to make the save after McIntyre continued attacking Uso. Cody and McIntyre will once again face off for the WWE Championship at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event next month.
