Mason Rook Reveals His Wish to Face NXT UK Version of Gunther

Mason Rook has expressed his desire to get into the ring with the NXT UK version of former World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. During a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, Rook said he was inspired by the “heavier,” “bigger,” and “more menacing” version of Gunther during the initial stages of his pro wrestling career.

The NXT talent said that he’d love to be in the ring with that version of The Ring General. Gunther competed as Walter during his stint with WWE NXT UK, dominating the brand during his 870-day reign as the NXT UK Champion. Here’s what Rook said (via F4WOnline):

“I enjoy this new version of him, but personally, I would say as someone who would look to be inspired by different wrestlers and look to take bits from, I would definitely say when Gunther was a bit heavier and bigger, I would say he was a lot more menacing. That is who I would want to be in there with. That’s who I looked at and was like, ‘Wow, this guy is someone who I should look and try and emulate.’”

Meanwhile, Rook is set to challenge Grayson Waller for the NXT Championship next Tuesday. He became the number-one contender to the title by defeating Tony D’Angelo and Saquon Shugars in a Triple Threat match last week.
