Matt Cardona Names His Picks For ‘Face Of The Indies,’ What Advice He Gives Talent
Matt Cardona has a couple of picks for who he would consider the “face of the indies” now that he’s back with WWE. Cardona is back with the company, so he can no longer be considered the “Indie God.” He has had a ton of experience with talent on the independent scene and revaled on What Do You Wanna Talk About? with Cody Rhodes who he thinks are the big names to watch.
Cardona named Richard Holliday and Ben Bischop as guys who will do everything they can to get over and do the work. He also noted that they are “perfect WWE Superstars” and spoke about the advice he gives talent who ask. You can see highlights below:
On His Pick For ‘Face of the Indies’:
“I have two. And I’ve seen these guys all over the place, and I think effort is very important to me. Who is trying, who’s trying on social media?… Because I feel like — and I would say this to guys or girls in the indies all the time. Like, if you wanna put your phone away for the week, WWE is gonna post about you. Netflix, WWE Shop, ESPN, blah, blah, blah. If when I was on the indies, and I didn’t post about me, who’s gonna do it? So I would say Ben Bishop and Richard Holliday are my two guys who post a lot, who advance their stories, who will do the cell phone promo that nobody wants to do, right? ‘Oh, can you send me this promo?’ No one wants to do that. But you have to, right? Ben Bishop and Richard Holliday are my two guys. There’s many other guys and girls out there. But they’re the two that come to mind.”
On Holliday and Bishop:
“I think they’re good. I think they’re perfect WWE Superstars… I think so. I wrestled them both.”
On Giving Advice To Indie Talent:
“Anytime someone asks for advice, I give it. Or if there’s something I can do, I give it. The one piece of advice I give everybody is, it’s easy, but — the advice is easy. Don’t quit. You might make it if you don’t quit; you definitely won’t make it if you do. And that’s the advice that I would tell myself every day in the mirror, these past five and a half years.”
