Maven Recalls His Heel Turn in WWE, the Role the Eugene Character Played in His Turn

During a recent video on his YouTube channel, former WWE Superstar Maven spoke on his heel turn during the Ruthless Aggression era of WWE. Maven also recalled how WWE utilized Eugene to help with his heel turn.

Maven explained about Eugene (via WrestlingInc.com), “We live in a different world in 2025 than we did in 2004; the character Eugene would, for lack of a better term, get people canceled in this world, but in 2004 that did not exist.” He continued, “So, Eugene — Nick Dinsmore — who is one of the best wrestlers I’ve ever been in the ring with, pulled this gimmick off perfect.” He noted that WWE used the Eugene character to help him turn heel, adding “Who’s not going to get behind this gimmick?”
