Women’s Intercontinental Champion Maxxine Dupri recently opened up about working with Chad Gable during their days together as part of the Alpha Academy.
Speaking to The Wrestling Classic, Dupri stated that she loved working with Gable before the latter “lost his mind.” Gable transitioned into a heel last year after failing in his pursuits to capture the Intercontinental Championship from Sami Zayn, eventually leaving Maxxine, Otis, and Akira Tozawa and forming the American Made stable with The Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile.
Dupri stated that she learned a lot about the business and how to elevate the moments that matter from Chad, adding that the Olympian always chipped in with valuable advice.
“So, before Chad lost his mind, I loved working with him. I learned so much from him. He’s someone whose advice I really take to heart because, until he went off the deep [end], prior to that, he wasn’t a big yapper. He was only telling me things that were important for me to fix for my success. I feel that during that time, I learned so much from him about the business, about the moments that matter, and about how to make those moments better,” she said.
Maxxine Dupri also commented on working with Akira Tozawa, stating that the latter might be a man of few words, but he chips in with crucial suggestions after watching her matches.
“Another person who is a man of few words but who always gives me advice only when needed is Tozawa. Tozawa is an insanely talented wrestler, for starters. He’ll watch my matches, and he’ll only tell me the things that’s like, ‘Hey, next time, try this,’ and I’ll do it. I’m like, ‘My God! That was so much easier. Why have I not been doing that this whole time?’ But he has all these tricks up his sleeve, and it just is those little things that perfect those moments. I think it’s why when I watch his matches, Chad Gable’s matches, they’re so smooth, their timing, their nuances. It’s like, you just want to, like, it’s like you’re in a dreamland watching them fly around, you know? So I really appreciate that approach of, like, you know, we’re not critiquing, you know, every little thing, but there’s things that we can actually fix in this exact moment that’s going to change you for the better, and that is what I need. I need those pieces of advice.”
