Maya World Shocks Hikaru Shida, Wins AEW TBS Title At AEW Redemption

Maya World took advantage of Hikaru Shida trying to play with her food, shocking Shida to win the AEW TBS Title at AEW Redemption. Shida put her championship on the line against World at Sunday’s PPV, which led to World picking up the surprise win to become the new champion.

Shida and World went back and forth, with Shida targeting World’s knee from the early goings. World found herself fighting to stay in the match, particularly late in the going when Shida took firm control. The champion hit several moves in a row but refused to go for the pinfall. The ref tried to back Shida off but she shoved him and hit a Falcon Arrow, finally going for a cover. World managed to grab the rope and Shida thought she had won, which caused her to celebrate early. World recovered and hit a Fallaway Slam for the pinfall win and the title.

You can see clips from the AEW Redemption match below. The win marks World’s first run with the championship, and ends Shida’s first reign at 25 days. She won the vacant title on the July 1st episode of AEW Dynamite after Nightingale vacated it in late May.
