The wrestling community is still reeling from today’s shocking news of The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) agreeing to part ways with WWE. F4WOnline’s Bryan Alvarez (via F4WOnline.com) shared new details on why Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston opted to agree to leave WWE.
According to Alvarez’s report, Kingston and Woods opted to leave after they were asked to restructure their contracts signed with WWE last year. At the time, Kingston and Woods re-upped with WWE for multi-year deals that would’ve taken them well into 2030.
Alvarez indicated that Woods and Kingston weren’t happy with the newly restructured deals offered by TKO. He wrote, “We can also confirm that in the case of New Day, it was their decision to leave based on what TKO was offering for a new deal.”
He also added, “To be specific, New Day’s deals were not up. They were asked to restructure to TKO deals, they didn’t like the deals, so they were then granted their release.”
Kingston and Woods are currently under a 90-day waiting period until they can become free agents and wrestle elsewhere. As noted, there’s said to be immediate interest in them from other promotions, and major names in AEW are said to be pushing for them to join the company.
