During the latest edition of SiriusXM’s The Nikki & Brie Show, WWE Superstar and Hall of Famer Nikki Bella addressed the controversy of her short match with Paige on last week’s Friday Night SmackDown. Bella won the match, which lasted just over three minutes.
Nikki Bella explained that although she prepared to have a PLE-level match with Paige last week, the idea of the storytelling was to leave viewers wanting more.
Speaking on the controversy over the short match, Nikki explained, “Our numbers ended up being the most talked about from Friday Night SmackDown. Isn’t that amazing? So it was like even though you know we thought we were gonna have this like PLE match and I came in like super prepped for that, and you know it turned in, and I love storytelling so like let’s continue this, and it was-” Nikki’s sister, Brie Bella, interjected, “But maybe that’s why people are talking because they want more.”
Nikki continued, “You didn’t let me finish. Yeah, that’s what I was saying is that I’m all about the story. So, like, take it away and then you put in that, and it’s great heat, right? And it gets people talking, and now are like, when’s this going to happen? What’s next?” Brie responded, “You left them wanting more.” Brie added, “You left them wanting more.”
Nikki then elaborated how it adds fuel to her feud with Paige. She stated, “Yeah. And I love that I get to blame her. Blame her. You know what I mean? But yeah, no, it was amazing. Even though, so you know, the fam was there, and Ezekiel was, you know, told Dad in Spanish to tell me like, ‘My friends were texting me; we all want to know, like, why was that only two minutes,’ like he literally, and I’m like, well-
Brie interjected again, “You should have pointed out the bosses.” Nikki pointed out that from a storytelling perspective, the short match was Paige’s fault for coming out “like an angry woman,” stating, “No, I was like it’s her fault go tell Paige it’s her fault she came out like an angry woman, but yeah I was it was awesome.”
The match between Paige and Nikki Bella had been brewing for a while. The Bella Twins turned on Paige last month at WWE SummerSlam after they lost a six-woman tag team match against Fatal Influence.
