Shelton Benjamin and Mike Bailey’s match on this week’s AEW Dynamite rather awkwardly, and a new report notes there was a miscommunication in the finish. Wednesday’s show saw the two compete for the #2 spot in the Casino Gauntlet Match for the AEW National Title at Full Gear. The finish saw Benjamin go for a pin after a superkick. The ref stopped counting despite Bailey’s shoulders being down. The match finished shortly after with another superkick.
Both F4W Online and Fightful Select report that miscommunication led to the flub. Benjamin attempted to call an audible, believing that the superkick looked good enough for the finish. However, the referee didn’t hear him and thus didn’t count the pin.
Despite speculation otherwise, Bailey was not concussed on the superkick and “everyone is fine.”
Benjamin earned the #2 spot in the Gauntlet match, which will determine the inaugural National Champion. It will be on the main card of the PPV, which airs Saturday live from Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. 411 will have live coverage of the event.
