Note On Speculation Regarding Nigel McGuinness’ Injury Status

Nigel McGuinness appeared to suffer an injury on last weekend’s AEW Collision, but new speculation is that the injury is a work. As noted, McGuinness was announced as having suffered an injury during his Continental Challenge Cup match on last week’s Collision. While McGuinness is continuing on in the Challenge Cup, he is reportedly out of his ROH Pure Championship match at ROH Death Before Dishonor.

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, both Bryan Alvearez and Dave Meltzer stated that the injury is a work. Alvarez said while discussing McGuinness’ win over Hechicero on last night’s Dynamite (per Wrestling Inc):

“He’s not hurt. He literally taped up his boot… He taped up his boot and then Hechicero started taking the tape off his boot. What the hell is going on in this match?”

Meltzer said that it was “obvious” McGuinness wasn’t hurt. It should be noted that Meltzer previously reported that the injury was legitimate.
