Omos Speaks on Being Told he was Going to AAA, Difference Between US & Mexico Wrestling Fans

While it’s been a long time since we’ve seen Omos on WWE main roster television, he’s been making plenty of waves elsewhere. Friday night’s AAA TripleMania 34 Night One in Las Vegas saw the Nigerian Giant conquer Rey Mysterio and earn his reinstatement into AAA. Apparently that wasn’t enough, as he showed up for Night Two in Mexico City on Sunday and won the Copa Bardahl. Even with Dominik Mysterio’s loss of the AAA Mega Championship, Omos’ weekend must have Dorain Roldan feeling optimistic about the future of El Ojo.

Before TripleMania 34 went down, Omos spoke with the Complex Graps wrestling podcast about his experience in AAA and what he likes about the atmosphere there.

On the difference between fans in the United States & Mexico:

“They want to have fun. They want to enjoy the show. They want to be part of the show. You can feel the exuberance whenever any of the superstars come out into the arena. They’re excited. They are excited to see us. So that would be the great distinction I would say.”

On what he thought when he was told he’d be going to AAA:

“It was great. It was a new challenge because prior to that, I had to do a stint in Japan at (Pro Wrestling NOAH). They had that excitement to venture into new places that we had never been to and you know, Mexico had been on my mind, but I’m glad that the acquisition did happen and I’m able to spread my roots throughout Mexico and it’s been nothing but great. I’ve had an amazing time and amazing experience.”

On if he was nervous about going to AAA:

“Not necessarily because wrestling is a universal language. If you love wrestling, it doesn’t matter whether it’s from the US, whether it’s from Japan, Mexico, you can understand it. You can enjoy it. So, I didn’t think that that was I wasn’t nervous at all…Especially after my Japan (tour). That kind of prepared me for going to Mexico.”
