Penta Survives Six-Man Ladder Match, Retains Title at WrestleMania 42: Sunday

Penta faced an uphill battle at WrestleMania 42: Sunday, putting his WWE Intercontinental Championship on the line against five other competitors in a six-man Ladder Match. However, channeling the aura of Mortal Kombat villain and final boss, Shao Kahn, which he used as part of his entrance attire motif, Penta managed to come out victorious and retain the title. The other competitors in the match included JD McDonagh, Rusev, Rey Mysterio, Je’Von Evans, and Dragon Lee.

At one point, the bouncy Je’Von Evans nearly had the match and belt in hand, landing a huge OG Cutter on Rusev. However, as Shao Kahn says in the Mortal Kombat II trailer, it was time to “Finish him!” Penta snuck in and landed a Mexican Destroyer on Evans. That gave Penta enough time to retrieve his title.

Penta has held the title for 48 days, winning it from Dominik Mysterio on the March 2 edition of Monday Night Raw. The victory marks his first win at WrestleMania. The wrestler previously competed for the title in a Fatal 4-Way bout at last year’s show, but Dominik Mysterio won that one.
