Rey Mysterio Earns WWE Intercontinental Title Shot On WWE Raw

Rey Mysterio is the #1 contender to the WWE Intercontinental Championship, earning a title shot on WWE Raw and getting saved by a returning Dragon Lee. Monday night’s episode saw Mysterio earn a shot at Penta for the Intercontinental title. The match was set up when Penta told Mysterio backstage that it would be an honor to face him. Ethan Page and Rusev appeared and weren’t happy that Mysterio was possibly getting a shot ahea of them. Adam Pearce then booked a match between Rusev and Mysterio for the #1 contendership.

Mysterio picked up the win in nine and a half minutes, reversing an Accolade attempt and rolling Rusev for the victory. After the match, Page and Rusev attacked Mysterio and Dragon Lee returned to TV to make the save. He tripped up Rusev and Mysterio hit a 619 before Lee hit a dive on Page. You can see clips from the match below.

Lee last appeared on WWE TV at WrestleMania 42 as part of the six pack ladder match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Mysterio and Rusev were also part of that match alongside Penta, JD McDonagh, and Je’Von Evans with Penta winning to retain the title.

No word as of yet on when Mysterio will get his title shot. Mysterio is also the General Manager for AAA, having been announced for the role on this past weekend’s AAA On FOX.
