Ricochet has cited The Joker as a major inspiration for his character work on AEW television. The Demand member recently spoke with Sports Illustrated for a new interview promotiong his work for the DC Super Villains campaign. During the conversation, he spoke about how the iconic Batman villain is someone he draws on for his heel work in AEW.
Ricochet also spoke about finding the balance between being prepared or improvising in terms of his character work. You can see the highlights below:
On Taking Inspiration From The Joker:
“The Joker, who obviously thrives in chaos, is somebody I take a lot of inspiration from. Because Ricochet in AEW just likes to cause chaos. Whether that leads to something or not, he just wants to cause chaos. So that’s something I connect with… There’s a method behind his madness, and that’s also something I pull from.”
On the Balance Between Preparation And Improvising:
“It’s a 50/50 thing. I love having things happen organically, because I think a lot of the time you get some of the best stuff that way. But if I’m going into a promo, I try to think about anything that person is going to say to me, because I need to have a response back. So I sit there and think about it as much as I can, but at the same time, I am a fan of spontaneity.
“Sometimes you don’t know how the crowd’s going to react to something, so you have to react to the way they react. You have to go off them sometimes. Or sometimes you have to drive them to where you’re trying to go.”
