Roman Reigns Ends CM Punk’s World Title Reign In Main Event of WrestleMania 42 Night Two

Roman Reigns is the new World Heavyweight Champion, defeating Roman Reigns in a war of a main event at WrestleMania 42 night two. The OTC defeated Punk in the final match of Sunday’s PLE. The back and forth match started special Punk came out to his original entrance song “Miseria Cantera.”

The bout itself saw Punk get busted open partway through the match when Reigns hit a Superman punch on the outside while the champion was suspended upside down in the ropes. Punk battled back and busted out every trick he had, including a low blow at one point when the referee’s attention was distracted depositing Punk’s handwrap on the outside after Punk tossed it at Reigns.

Punk had Reigns up at the end of the match for the Go To Sleep, but he collapsed from and Reigns was able to hit the spear to get the win. You can see highlights from the match below.

The win marks Reigns’ first run with this particular iteration of the World Heavyweight Championship, which was instituted in 2023 when Reigns held both the Universal Championship and WWE Championship. Punk’s reign, his second, ends at 169 days. He won the vacant title at Saturday Night’s Main Event XLI in November.
