Rusev Says His Child’s Impending Birth Gives More Motivation To Win WWE Intercontinental Title

Rusev says that he is more motivated than ever to win the WWE Intercontinental Title now that he and CJ Perry are expecting. As reported, the couple announced last week that they are expecting their first child, who should be born in April. They are expecting a son, who Rusev said they intend to name Bear Petrov Barnyashev.

Rusev spoke about the matter on TMZ Inside the Ring and said that the impending arrival gives him extra motivation to chase the title that he’s had his eyes on for a while.

“I had been following the Intercontinental Title for over a year now,” Rusev said (per Wrestling Inc). “And I believe when the time is right I will bring it back home. Whether it’s before Bear or after Bear, this title will be mine. And now, especially knowing that Bear is coming, I have a lot more to fight for.”

He continued, “I have to teach my son how to be a man, how to stand up for himself, how to show his power where he needs to be, not just spread his power everywhere. Because you can, you have to concentrate your strength. So now this is going to be my next task, my next mission is to show my life to my child and how to behave when he grows up when I’m not here.”

The WWE Intercontinental Championship is currently held by Chad Gable. No word as of yet on when Rusev will be returning to WWE TV; he has been off since suffering an injury in July, but said last week that he is “feeling good” and just waiting for his chance to return.
