Santos Escobar Confirms Official New Ring Name

Santos Escobar has a new ring name, confirming what he’ll be going by from here forward on Friday afternoon. The WWE alumnus posted to his Twitter account to share a new video, announcing that he is competing as Romeo Malverde going forward.

The video sees Malverde in black and white in front of a casket and bidding his old identity goodbye as the traditional funeral dirge plays. As he walks way, “Hasta siempre, S.E.” is seen (“Until forever, S.E.” The post with the video reads:

“Renovation through expiration. Hasta siempre emperador Santos. BIENVENIDO ROMEO MALVERDE”

Santos Escobar/Romeo Malverde was released from WWE in April among that month’s talent cuts. He is a free agent going forward. It is not yet confirmed where we may see him next, though it was reported shortly after his exit that he was expected to have discussions with CMLL about joining the company. He had talks with the promotion when he briefly left WWE in October of last year.
