Saya Kamitani vs. Syuri Double Women’s Title Match Announced for NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20, Updated Card

New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) confirmed another double-title bout for Wrestle Kingdom 20 in January. During today’s Wrestle Kingdom 20 press conference, New Japan announced that NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion Saya Kamitani will face off against IWGP Women’s Champion Syuri in a double-title bout at the upcoming event.

Both titles will be at stake for the upcoming event. STRONG Champion Kamitani will notably be defending her title at World of STARDOM in Ryogoku before Wrestle Kingdom. However, the wrestler stated during the presser that she still plans to “bring the red belt to the Dome,” and “with the IWGP and STRONG titles both on the line, that will certainly show just who the icon of women’s wrestling is.” She also added that she will “take the weight of the IWGP off (Syuri’s) shoulder,” and how “tens of thousands of people in the Tokyo Dome will leave as devotees of Saya-sama.”

During the press conference, IWGP Women’s Champion Syuri stated, “My champion road has only just begun, and I will not be losing.” Syuri recently regained the title last month at NJPW King of Pro-Wrestling, beating Sareee, after returning from injury.

Syuri went on during the press conference, “I had surgery, came back, won the IWGP again, and finally I can show my era again,” commenting that her title “is the top belt in women’s wrestling.”
