The Iron Sheik was one of Sgt. Slaughter’s biggest rivals, and the WWE Hall of Famer recently recalled attending Sheik’s funeral. Slaughter and Sheik famously feuded with each other back in 1984 in WWE before eventually teaming up when Slaughter turned heel his Iraqi sympathizer storyline in 1991.

Sheik passed away in 2003, and Slaughter noted in an interview with Going Ringside that he was the only wrestler at Sheik’s funeral.

“Oh yeah, he was one of those guys that no matter how many times you knocked him down, he’s back up looking you right in the eye,” Slaughter said of Sheik, before talking about Shiek’s passing. “2023, he passed, and I was the only wrestler at his funeral. Which, I thought was pretty horrendous that I was the only wrestler to go to his funeral.”

Slaughter continued, “He lived in Atlanta, where all the wrestlers lived, so I thought that was kind of a slap in the face. [He did] so much. So much not only for wrestlers, but for the professional wrestling business.”

Sheik and Slaughter are both WWE Hall of Famers, with the former being inducted in 2005 and the latter in 2004.
