During a recent interview with Soundsphere, AEW wrestler Skye Blue discussed her career, competing in the first-ever women’s Blood & Guts match, and more. Below are some highlights:
Skye Blue on Competing in the First Women’s Blood & Guts Match
“I was ecstatic. I was the happiest human, because I remember I felt like – this is gonna be a very niche comparison – but the episode of Game of Thrones, when John Snow is covered in blood from the Battle of the Bastards. That’s what I felt at that moment, like, ‘I am the coolest bitch on the planet’. I was bloody until the end of the night.”
On Pushing for More Opportunities for the Women’s Division
“I’m the person who always has the mindset of, ‘We can do it too.’ Yeah, it’s crazy, but we can do it. We all fell in love with wrestling,” she says of the entire roster. “We all fell in love with the same thing, and we just wanna show what we love to do and do the best we can. We’re always gonna want to keep pushing for more and more and more. I don’t think anybody should ever be satisfied. You should always want to strive to be the best and have the most opportunities.”
On Trying To Improve Her Promos
“I’m a very quiet and shy person, so it’s something I need to work on and get more comfortable with. You don’t get comfortable doing that kind of stuff until you just jump in the deep end and do it. I would absolutely love to be better about talking and doing promos. I’ve never done a live promo, but I’m not the finalized version of myself. There is always room to grow and get better.”
On Potentially Stepping Up With Toni Storm Being Out for the Rest of the Year
“I definitely would love to step up. I’ve wrestled Toni so many times, I absolutely love wrestling that woman. I feel like since she came to AEW, I’ve learned so much from her. Just being able to pick her brain about wrestling – every time I get in the ring with her, I feel like I’ve learned something about wrestling, so there are big shoes to fill. But I think all three of us are ready to step up and show that we are dominant players in the women’s division, and we’re ready to push forward and show them.”
Skye Blue was recently in action with her Sisters of Sin tag team partner, Julia Hart, at last weekend’s AEW Collision: Slam Dunk Saturday. They lost a tag team bout to The Brawling Birds (Alex Windsor and Jamie Hayter).
