Steven Borden Explains Why He Doesn’t Paint His Face Like His Dad & Darby Allin

Steven Borden says that he doesn’t plan to paint his face to match Darby Allin or call back to his father. Borden is of course the son of one of the most legendary face-painted wrestlers of all time in Sting, and teams with Allin who has his own signature look. However, he said in an interview alongside Allin with Trent Osborne of 1010XL that it’s not something he plans to do at the moment.
Allin initially responded to the question by quipping (per Fightful), “Look how sexy he is. He doesn’t need it.” Borden then gave a more serious response.
“The last thing I want to do is be playing the greatest hits,” he said. “I think you can do callbacks when it makes sense at the right time. But I think if I were to have come out with face paint and a trench coat and a bat, I probably could have been booed out of the building in the beginning, and I’m still in the beginning right now. So kind of taking it week by week.”
Allin and Borden will be part of the Blood & Guts match on tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite, which of course airs live on HBO Max and TBS.
