On the latest episode of Everybody’s Got a Pod, WWE Hall of Famer Ted DiBiase talked about Bret Hart defeating Ric Flair to become the WWE Champion in 1992 and more. You can check out some highlights below:
Ted DiBiase on Bret Hart becoming WWE Champion: “You know, I thought it was great. Number one, I think the world of Bret Hart. I mean, there’s so many similarities. He, like me, came from a wrestling family. I mean, his dad was a promoter up there in Calgary for all those years. And so he grew up in the business like I did, and he had it.”
On whether he was jealous of Hart being World Champion: “Not jealous of him, just — because again, I admired his work, here’s a guy who is definitely capable. I mean, there’s no doubt that Bret Hart had the wrestling talent, no doubt. I mean, was he deserving? Absolutely. And it’s like, was I disappointed because I wasn’t selected? Absolutely.
“And the other thing is, maybe I should have played politics a little more. Maybe I should have spoken up and said, ‘Hey look,’ Because I mean, there have been guys to done that and say, ‘Look, enough. If you’re not going to go with me, then I’m going.’ Well, there was a time when you could say that and go to another territory. Now [in his era] if you say I’m leaving, ‘Well there’s the door. Don’t let it hit you in the butt.’ Because there was no place else to go, because the entire United States was Vince’s territory.”
