The Godfather has been friends with the Undertaker since well before their time in WWE, and he recently recalled how much influence he had on the future Dead Man. Charles Wright and Undertaker were members of the famed BSK backstage group in WWE, but they knew each other from much earlier than that.

Godfather looked back at the start of his friendship with Taker in an interview with Sportshadow Wrestling. He talked about how he introduced Undertaker to the biker life and more. You can see highlights below:

On Becoming Friends With Undertaker:

“I met Mark like in ’88 and we became a tag team called Death Express in the Mid-South with Jerry Lawler in Memphis. We became really good friends. When I met Taker, he didn’t ride — first of all, when I met Taker, he didn’t drink Jack Daniels. That’s from me. When I met Taker, he didn’t listen to country music, that’s from me. When I met him, he had no tattoos. You’ll see pictures of him getting his first tattoo, and you’ll see me behind him like this [arms crossed]. And most importantly, he didn’t ride a Harley. That’s from me.

“And so he — what I tell people about, because Taker will tell you, ‘Dude, all the American badass is this dude over here talking about me.’ But all I tell people about Taker is, I just introduced him to a new way of life and he took to it real well.”

On Why Undertaker’s Gimmick Worked Better Than Other Supernatural Ones:

“I don’t know, I’m the — you have a better answer to that than me. He was lucky. What he did caught on, and he did what he did very well. He took care of the character, he took care of other wrestlers. He has a lot of love for wrestling., he cares a lot about the sport.

“So I mean, everything was in order. He has the look, he has the talent and he played his character very well. I mean, why would you not like a big 6’10” Dead Man? [laughs]”
