The Miz & Matt Cardona Honor Saved by the Bell Star Dennis Haskins Following His Passing

Dennis Haskins, best known to viewers and fans as Mr. Belding of the Saved by the Bell franchise, passed away this week at 75 years old. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Haskins’ agent, Jay Schachter, confirmed his passing. WWE Superstars The Miz and Matt Cardona shared messages on social media, honoring the late TV star.

Cardona wrote on social media, “RIP Dennis Haskins. He was a huge part of my childhood as Mr. Belding from Saved by the Bell. Years later we became friends. He will be missed.”

The Miz also wrote a message honoring Haskins, who he spoke about meeting and befriending. He wrote the following on his Instagram account:

“This is crazy 3 of these posts in 2 days. Man, this is sad. Growing up, I watched Dennis Haskins on TV and never imagined that one day I’d get to call him my friend.

When I finally met him, he was even better in person. He had this infectious laugh, and no matter when I saw him, he brought so much warmth and positivity with him. Dennis had this way of making you feel so special when you were around him.

It’s hard to believe I won’t hear that laugh again. I’ll miss the friend I got to know, and I’ll always be grateful that someone who was part of my childhood became part of my life. Rest in peace, Dennis.”

Haskins’ cause of death was not disclosed, but he was previously diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Haskins portrayed Mr. Belding across all four seasons of the original Saved by the Bell series, plus in a guest capacity in its sequel series, Saved by the Bell: The College Years. He also appeared in two tie-in made-for-tv movies, Hawaiian Style and Wedding in Las Vegas.

Haskins also returned as a main cast member in Saved by the Bell: The New Class, which aired on NBC from 1993 to 2000 and ran for 143 episodes, more than the original.
