New Women’s World Champion Crowned on AEW Dynamite

Thekla is the new AEW Women’s World Champion, winning the title in a bloody strap match on this week’s AEW Dynamite. Wednesday night’s show was headlined by Kris Statlander putting her title on the line against Thekla in the stipulation match.

The bout proved to be a brutal one, with Statlander busted open early on. She continued the fight and they went back and forth for 14 minutes. Skye Blue and Julia Hart eventually showed up, with Blue distracting referee Aubrey Edwards as Hart attacked Statlander. Thekla bound Statlander’s wrists behind her back with the strap and hit a stomp for the pinfall and victory.

After the match, all three women attacked Statlander until Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor came out for the save. Thekla, Blue and Hart backed off and celebrated in the ramp to close the show. You can see highlights from the match and the post-match brawl below.

The win marks Thekla’s first reign as AEW Women World Champion and her first title in the company. Statlander’s reign ends at 145 days. She won the title, her first, at AEW All Out in September against Toni Storm, Hayter, and Thekla.
