Thunder Rosa Reflects On Lucha Underground Experience, Learning From Talent There

Thunder Rosa had her big break in wrestling at Lucha Underground, and she recently weighed in on her experience there. The AEW star portrayed Kobra Moon for the promotion, joining the cast in season two. She has since gone on to become a star in AEW, having a reign as the AEW Women’s World Champion.

Rosa appeared on Masks Mats & Mayhem for the 10th anniversary of the defunct promotion’s birth. She spoke a bit about her time there, and you can see some highlights below:

On Her Lucha Underground Experience:

“I think it was the best and the worst. The best is like your first opportunity on TV, your major contract, getting paid like the ridiculous amount of money that used we used to get paid.

“And I’m not saying — because some of us didn’t get paid a lot of money to do some of the crazy s**t that we were doing. The ridiculous stuff on the contracts. And it’s just crazy. Like that’s one.”

On Learning From Talent There:

“Two, the learning experience at Lucha Underground was tremendous. I don’t think if I wouldn’t been part of that specific time in that specific era in professional wrestling, I wouldn’t be where I am right now. Because it forced me to be better than I was, because I was in the presence of excellence. I mean, you’re talking about Rey Mysterio, Ricochet when he was at his peak in the indies. Jesus, you know, you have Drago, you have Aero Star, you have all these people that have so much — Chavo and his father were there. I got to meet his dad. I got to meet his dad and and there were wonderful people. Rest in peace.

“Who else? I mean, you have Brian Cage when he was at his hottest, Willie Mack. Oh my god, so many people. Paul London. [AR] Fox, [Swerve] Strickland. But yeah, I mean everybody was very hungry. I mean, Taya [Valkyrie] was coming from Triple A. Sexy Star was pushed to the moon. And a lot of us, we learned how to work TV at that time. And it was like sink or swim. And you guys were there when I f**king sunk.”
