Thunder Rosa On Britt Baker’s AEW Return, Doesn’t Feel Need To Top Their Lights Out Match

Thunder Rosa recently weighed in on Britt Baker’s return to AEW and why she doesn’t feel the need to top their infamous Lights Out match. Baker made her return to AEW TV at All In, allying with Persephone. Rosa and Baker had a heated feud that included a famous Lights Out match on the March 17, 2021, episode of AEW Dynamite.

Rosa was asked on the Battleground Podcast about Baker’s return and how she’s changed since they last locked up. She noted that she’s more mature or chill now, and is more focused on Persephone than Baker. She added that she doesn’t think she needs to outdo their Lights Out match because it made history and she’s looking for new challenges, though she’s still up for hardcore matches if need be. On How She’s Changed During Baker’s Absence:

“I am more mature. I am more chill. She is not on my list of things that I have to worry about. Like, the one that I have to worry about is Persephone, you know? She’s the one who called me out. She is the champ right now; she is the one who everybody wants her spot.

“But the funny thing is like, she called me out. So she definitely she wants something with me, because I represent the women’s division in AEW. I was one of the ones that we were kicking ass and taking names from the beginning. And we are — I mean, I’m gonna add Britt Baker on this one, because she’s part of this thing. We changed a lot of things in the division, and this is why a lot of the super crazy matches that are happening were able to happen. Because we were the pioneers on this one.”

On If She Ever Feels the Need To Top the Lights Out Match:

“No, you know what? It’s — I think I’m blessed that people still talk about it, and still talk very highly of this match. Because that means that we made history. And they haven’t had another female match that has won match of the year in AEW, with any of the females. And they’ve been fantastic matches, right? But we were able to do that, and that’s a huge deal in professional wrestling.

“So I am not trying to outdo myself or like — that’s not the point. I mean, for me right now it’s ‘How can I challenge myself to do things that I thought that I would never do.’ Like, doing fully lucha libre in Mexico, since I train American wrestling. And it’s like, changing your mindset and being flexible to do all these things.”

On Still Being Up For Hardcore Matches:

“Yeah, if you have me do a match that is an edgy match? Believe me, I’m going to find a way to do some crazy stuff because that’s just how I am. I’m an artist and when you give me weapons, guess what? I’m going to use them damn weapons. I’m one of the best at doing that. Like, there was a point in my career that I was doing one of those matches a week in the indies. I was just on fire; I was crazy.

“Now, like I said. I am more mature. I pace myself and like,
I just know that there are seasons in your life where you want to do certain things. And I think right now, this season in my life is to challenge myself to a point in where I’m like, “Oh s**t, I’m still super good and I still can do this.'”
