Tony D’Angelo says he had some natural reservations about changing his NXT character away from “The Don,” but feels it worked out fine. D’Angelo was The Don of NXT up until late last year, when he came back in a more serious, grounded character that eventually led him to the NXT Championship.

D’Angelo was asked about the character shift in his interview with Love Wrestling. He noted that he had concerns at first and initially struggled with it but believes it worked out well. He also said he’d be open to revisiting it at some time down the road. You can see highlights below:

On If He Was Worried About changing His Character:

“Well, of course I did. You know, the decision wasn’t really up to me if I’m being honest. But we pivoted, we adapted, and now we’re here.

Of course, you have your reservations because you just don’t know. You don’t know what you don’t know. And I was doing something for so long, and it — in my eyes, it was successful and fans liked it. But it was hard. It was a difficult transition for a little bit, but I’d say it worked out.”

On Potentially Revisiting the Don Down the Road:

“So, I’m happy with it. You know, if there’s ever a universe where maybe we could get back to the Don stuff or maybe morph the two, I’d be 100% open to it. I thoroughly enjoyed that part of my career. But until then, we’re going to keep rocking with the Master of Fate.”
