On the latest episode of What Happened When with Tony Schiavone, the AEW broadcaster discussed  the classic Intercontinental Championship match between The British Bulldog, Davey Boy Smith, and Bret Hart at WWE SummerSlam 1992.

Tony Schiavone what he likes about the match between Davey Boy Smith and Bret Hart: “Yeah, it is the first time I’ve seen it. And what I like about this is, I like the pace of it. But I also like — you know, there’s one thing that I like that some of the great wrestlers do, and not all of them do it. And that’s, when they hit the ropes they hit the ropes hard, and they hit the ropes fast. It’s one thing that Shawn Michaels always did. See Davey Boy right there, ran hard into that foot.

“You’ve got to — with the young kids these days, I always tell them, I said, ‘Watch a Shawn Michaels match. Watch how he hits the ropes.’ It’s a small thing, but to me, it makes for a better match. It makes for a better pace of a match. Not everybody can get some speed between the ropes, but we are seeing it here in this match, and it makes for a better match.”

On Bret calling the match: “I’m enjoying this. And if the Bulldog — if he missed everything, if he was f**ked, right? If he forgot everything, then let’s hear for Bret Hart for calling a great match, right? That shows some talent to help come up with a good match here.

“I just love a fast-paced match. And yeah, they had some rest holds. They had to have some rest holds to be able to call some spots if you forgot everything. But if the match has a good pace to it, you don’t think, or you don’t dwell on the rest holds.”
