Trish Stratus Recalls Vince McMahon Hounding Her to Do Playboy, Her Reaction To Lingerie Shoot

While Trish Stratus was known in part for her sex appeal in WWE, she says she has never regretted turning down Playboy and that the sexy persona is not her at all. Several WWE women did Playboy during Stratus’ era including Torrie Wilson, Ashley Massaro, Christy Hemme, and Sable. Stratus never did, and she was asked in her appearance on Pod Meets World if she ever second-guessed that.

Stratus said that she did not and explained that the sex symbol aspect of her character is not her at all. You can see the highlights below:

On If She Ever Second Guessed Not Doing Playboy:

“No. Oh my gosh, it’s just not for me. When I say I’m like a tomboy. Like, even though I’m known, I am known as a sex symbol I suppose, I’ve heard that. It is like, not me, it is my character. [laughs] This is me here. But I mean, I pull it off, you know? But yeah, no. It was not even an option. I was like, ‘Oh, that is just not me.’ Even when I had to do the pillow fights, and — actually I didn’t have a pillow fight one… It was just, it wasn’t me. It felt it was very put on.”

On Not Being Comfortable With Some Of That Content:

“Even one time — they had these annual magazines. It was called the Divas Magazines. It was like our [Sports] Illustrated [Swimsuit] magazine where we’d go down to some exotic locations and shoot it. I don’t know if it was budget cuts or whatever it was, or maybe like you said, the horny writers or storylines. But suddenly instead of the annual bikini issue, they wanted a lingerie issue.

“And I was like, ‘Ew.’ Like honestly, I didn’t wanna do it. And I just like — it felt so silly to me. So I made this whole look. It was like sports lingerie where I did like — you know, I did the socks and like made it athletic, sexy. So the sexy thing didn’t come from me.”

On Turning Down Playboy:

“So when Playboy came on, I was like, ‘Absolutely not interested.’ Vince, oh my God, hounded me like crazy. He’s like, ‘It’s a great opportunity.’ And I was shown also during that time that, ‘But look at the opportunity if — you turned this down, so we’re gonna give your opportunity to her. Are you sure?’ And I’m like, ‘No, I still don’t want to do it. Thank you.’ And it came to me for years and years, and I just was like, ‘No.’ And I do not regret it, never. It’s just not my thing.”

Elsewhere in the interview, she recalled turning down a storyline involving kissing a girl and being punished for it.
