WWE is looking to have a special referee for the WWE Champion Jinder Mahal vs. WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar match at Survivor Series. John Cena is rumored for the role, which could lead to Cena challenging Mahal, possibly for WrestleMania 34, but Cena’s filming schedule may not allow him to appear.

According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Vince McMahon is reportedly considering The Rock & Steve Austin for the job. With the Rock, the issue is whether his schedule will allow him to do it and how much it would cost. He and Lesnar faced 15-years ago, and a Lesnar vs. Rock match was the planned main event for WrestleMania 30 in 2014, but Rock suffered a series of muscle tears in his 2013 Mania match with Cena, which led to a delay in filming Hercules. Since then, movie studios have frowned on the Rock wrestling and he’s not done a serious match since.

Austin is done as a wrestler, but Meltzer says that there’s still the intrigue of Austin and Lesnar in the ring together. The idea behind the big name as a special referee is that Mahal will benefit from being in the ring with two big names (Lesnar & the ref).
