AAA Hall of Famer Konnan reportedly received support from WWE with his medical expenses following a series of serious health complications that led to a double leg amputation earlier this year.

News of Konnan’s hospitalization first surfaced in March 2026, when reports stated that he had been admitted to a hospital in San Diego, California, due to medical issues. Initial updates indicated that one of his legs had been amputated.

A more recent update came from Vince Russo during an episode of The Coach and Bro! podcast. Russo shared details from conversations he had with Konnan and revealed that both of Konnan’s legs were ultimately amputated.

According to Russo, he spoke with Konnan roughly two months after their previous conversation. He said Konnan was undergoing intensive rehabilitation and learning to adapt after the surgeries. Russo also recalled that when they had spoken previously, the future of Konnan’s second leg was still uncertain. Unfortunately, doctors later determined that a second amputation was necessary (via Fightful).

“You know, Konnan, I’ve known Konnan forever and Konnan, man, he had my back at WCW in 1999, and I’ll never forget that. Konnan has gone through a double leg amputation. Yes, both legs and you know, I was smartened up on it. I knew he had the one leg amputated and the second one was in question. That was the last time I talked to him, probably about two months ago. They had to remove the second one. So I called Konnan yesterday. I didn’t talk to him long, because he’s very weak. He’s going through grueling rehabilitation. You know, learning how to — I can’t even imagine that. We can’t. You can’t imagine that. So he really, really sounded exhausted so I’m like, ‘Brother, go relax. We’re praying for you, we love you’ and all that but, I do want to point this out.”

One of the biggest revelations from this update involved WWE’s reported role in helping Konnan through the situation. According to Russo, Konnan told him that WWE covered all of his medical expenses.

Konnan said to me that the WWE has paid every single cent of his medical bills. Yeah, and that’s got to be pointed out and that’s got to be said… He said, ‘Vince, the WWE have paid every penny and I was only working with them for a short time.’”

Before his hospitalization, Konnan had been working with WWE’s Lucha Libre AAA brand as a color commentator. He was part of the broadcast team alongside Corey Graves and John Bradshaw Layfield.

The current AAA commentary team consists of Graves, JBL, and AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio.
