Cody Rhodes managed to retain the WWE Undisputed Title in the main event of WrestleMania 42: Saturday. However, it appears WWE altered its plans for the finish of the main event, pivoting in a different direction.
According to a report by BodySlam+, sources state that Randy Orton was originally going to win and capture his landmark 15th world title win at last night’s show. However, it’s said the decision was changed for the finish within the last few weeks.
WWE knew the feud between Rhodes and Orton would continue, so they ultimately decided to shift course with Cody winning. With the feud continuing, that’s why WWE ran the post-match angle, with Orton attacking Cody and hitting him with his patented punt kick.
The creative decision was meant to move things along in the newly agreed-upon direction following WrestleMania 42, opting not to pull the trigger on the title change yet. Cody only recently regained the title just over six weeks ago after beating Drew McIntyre on SmackDown.
Meanwhile, world title reign No. 15 continues to elude Randy Orton. However, it looks like he might still get another shot at Cody Rhodes at some point now that it appears that the feud will continue.
