WWE is reported to have had a discussion at one point about possibly bumping the 2027 Royal Rumble by a couple of weeks. The 2027 iteration of the yearly PLE was officially announced earlier this week as taking place on February 6th. There was a delay between the final date announcement and the original location reveal, which took place in August and had set the Royal Rumble as happening in February.

According to WrestleVotes on Fightful Select, there was an internal discussion about potentially moving it to February 20th. The idea was that they could get a huge amount of exposure for the event during Super Bowl weekend, with the game being broadcast on ESPN. It was believed that ESPN would potentially promote more of its upcoming programming, including the Rumble, in the lead-up.

WWE ultimately shot down the idea because it would have forced changes to the calendar structure, in addition to the fact that Phoenix, Arizona will be hosting the NBA All-Star Weekend from February 19th through the 21st.
