Liv Morgan became a four-time WWE Women’s World Champion after defeating Stephanie Vaquer and Becky Lynch at Money in the Bank. A backstage report from Dave Meltzer has now offered insight into WWE’s decision to end Vaquer’s 28-day reign.
Before MITB, Vaquer had defeated Morgan at an untelevised WWE live event at Movistar Arena in Santiago. Becky Lynch served as the special guest referee for the September 12 match. Morgan won the title back in the triple-threat match at Money in the Bank on October 10 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, pinning Vaquer after hitting the Ob-liv-ion.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE viewed Vaquer’s September 12 championship victory in Santiago, Chile, as a “one-night thing.” He added that the company sees Morgan and Rhea Ripley as the “superstars” of the women’s division on their respective brands. Meltzer stated (via Wrestling Inc):
“Essentially, the story is that the Chile thing was a one-night thing for Chile, and as soon as they had the chance, they got it back on Liv. Which doesn’t surprise me at all because you know, they want Liv as champion and they think she’s the Superstar on that brand. Her and Rhea Ripley are the two Superstars right now in the women’s division, so that was the deal.”
