Yota Tsuji says he doesn’t have issues with Tony Khan and has invited Khan to the NJPW G1 Climax’s opening night in Chicago, Illinois. As noted, Tsuji said that did not plan on appearing at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door in the leadup to the event as he said IWGP Championship matches at the show in past years didn’t meet his standards for a title match.
Khan had spoken after the PPV about how much respect he has for Tsuji and that Tsuji had acknowledged that when making his comments. The IWGP Heavyweight Championship responded to Khan’s comments in an interview with Tokyo Sports.
“I was once again struck by the greatness of his character as a person,” Tsuji said of Khan. “I’ll say it again, I respect Tony Khan. I have my own thoughts about AEW as well, but what I think is really the problem is New Japan’s diplomatic style. I think we can build a new relationship by re-examining that aspect.”
Tsuji added, “If his schedule allows, I’d like Tony Khan to come to Chicago. We at New Japan will have a chance to show the US what IWGP is all about, against the AEW champion. If necessary, I’d like to play a round of golf with him afterward,” he said.
AEW will have a presence at the show, with Tsuji facing in the tournament. The opening night of the G1 Climax takes place in Chicago on July 11th.
