Skydance Announce v2-08-01[2], Amy Hennig

Former Uncharted director and writer Amy Hennig is working on a new AAA game project based on the Marvel Universe. The newly formed game studio, Skydance New Media, announced today a partnership with Marvel Entertainment for development on an upcoming narrative-driven, blockbuster action-adventure game that will be helmed by Hennig.

This is a new initiative from the recently formed AAA game studio, headed up by Hennig and Electronic Arts veteran Julian Beak, to focus on new interactive entertainment. The announcement did not yet reveal what property, character or series the new game is based on.

Speaking on the project, Skydance New Media President Amy Hennig stated: “I can’t imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game. The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It’s an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love.”

“Amy has been setting the bar for narrative adventure games for decades and we are happy to be collaborating with the talented and experienced New Media team at Skydance,” added Jay Ong, Executive Vice President & Head of Marvel Games. “Their ambition and vision for making innovative entertainment using beloved Marvel IP was obvious from our first meeting. We’re excited to share more with Marvel fans when the time is right.”

Per the press release, Skydance New Media is assembling a group of experienced AAA game developers for the upcoming game, along with a diverse team of creative consultants from the worlds of film, television and comics. Skydance New Media’s dev team is promising to create experiences that will be crafted for traditional game platforms and emerging streaming services that will be appealing and accessible to global audiences.

Skydance’s Executive Vice President and GM Beak continued on today’s announcement: “We are enormously excited to be working inside the Marvel Universe to craft a rich narrative of our own. Jay and his team at Marvel Games are helping us make the best experiences imaginable.”

This is the latest major AAA game project in the works for the Marvel Universe. As previously noted, Insomniac Games recently announced a new Wolverine game project and also a sequel to their smash-hit Spider-Man video game. A new AAA action game based on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy received a multi-platform release from Square Enix earlier this week. Square Enix also released a Marvel’s Avengers game last year, though, the title received lukewarm reviews and disappointing sales (h/t Gamespot).

Skydance and Hennig’s Marvel project does not yet have a title or release period as of yet. More details will be revealed later on.
