Comment: The trilogy fight is official with two-time champion Stipe Miocic set to make his first defense of his second reign against Daniel Cormier a year after they last fought. This will be the first heavyweight championship trilogy since the wars between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos (2011-13).

Comment: The UFC 252 main event also has the added intrigue of being Daniel Cormier’s retirement fight. Win or lose, he has said this will be his final pro fight. If so, win or lose, he would go out as one of the best heavyweights in combat sports in the 21st century.

Comment: With a fight against Jon Jones looking more and more like fantasy MMA booking, he stands as the top contender following UFC 252’s heavyweight championship trilogy fight between Miocic and Cormier. With Ngannou waiting in the wings, we’ll hopefully see the next heavyweight title fight before the end of the year.

Comment: Blaydes earned his fourth consecutive win Saturday night in a convincing unanimous decision over Alexander Volkov. Blaydes was able to take him down, practically at will, for five rounds and the decision was never in any doubt. While UFC President Dana White was quick to criticize him for being acceptable of a win by decision, with the heavyweight division sorting itself out, he’s right in the mix at the top.
